TORD BOONTJE DESIGNS DECEMBER STAMPS FOR POSTNL

Our friend and neighbour, Tord Boontje, has designed a fantastically festive series of December stamps for Dutch national post company PostNL.

'I wanted to show how important it is to be together in December or to think of one another during this time. That's why I featured stories of people and animals on every stamp and ensured that there is interaction between the figures. My aim was to create a festive feeling without the normal Christmas clichés...'

Take a look at a selection of these magical small stories below, and click the link to visit the Studio Tord Boontje website and see them come to life - http://tordboontje.com/projects/identity/december-stamps/ They can also be seen in the studio and gallery window display at 23 Charlotte Road in Shoreditch, so don't forget to visit if you're in the area!

UPCOMING SHOW: MARTIN SMITH, 'RED AND BLACK WITH BLUE AND YELLOW' 18 NOVEMBER - 19 DECEMBER 2015

In this latest remarkable series Martin Smith creates three interrelated groups of work that seek to mathematically deconstruct the familiar ceramic archetypes of the bowl, the vase and the plate.

With reference to the ceramics of Ancient Greece, Smith primarily uses the colour black on his vases and bowls. This is then removed in key areas to reveal the red of the terracotta from which they are made.

Vases are assembled as triptych groups on shelves, the spaces between as significant as the forms themselves. Multi-plate installations explore not only the moiré effects of linear interference, but also the optical interference of colour when two or more colour systems interact.

The visual juxtaposition of Smith's pared-down sculptural vases and bowls with the complex graphic prints of his wall-based plate pieces sees the artist create an environment within which the viewer can experience sensations of perception and space.

The exhibition runs from 18 November to 19 December 2015.
