Our new
exhibitions are now open and feature Gordon Baldwin’s ‘Vessels in White and
Black’ in our main gallery, while John Rainey’s ‘Hyper Activity: Scenes From An
Other Reality’ takes over the Project Space.
In 'Vessels in White and Black', Gordon Baldwin has created an
atmospheric new series made in a spirit of reflection on the highly acclaimed
2012 national touring exhibition 'Objects for a Landscape'. Densely black
enclosed forms have a tense, explosive nature and contrast with tall, sensual
vessels the colour and texture of deep snow. The exhibition showcases
wonderfully stoic and contemplative works from a towering figure of British
ceramics.
Meanwhile, in our Project Space, we are delighted to introduce
recent RCA graduate John Rainey's first solo show, where he explores
how the prevalence of the virtual and the simulated in our daily lives can
cause our experiences of ‘reality’ and systems of living to become increasingly
hyperreal. His mixed media works investigate themes of identity and synthetic
experience using a combination of traditional and digital materials and
processes, the installation as a whole carries
ideas of multiplicity, observation and self-editing, ideas familiar from our
engagement with virtual worlds.
